The prevention and security officer ( APS ) aims to discourage malicious acts (theft, incivility, vandalism, damage to monuments, etc.) to secure spaces. He/she can be versatile or specialized (fire safety, remote monitoring, etc.)
The patroller monitors a place (most often an industrial site) by carrying out patrols on foot or by car. Controls, checks of means of prevention and alert systems, absence of intrusion… he. she makes sure that “everything is fine.”
Sometimes, on one or more screens, the remote surveillance operator monitors suspicious movements and the proper functioning of technical installations, for example. This professional works in a remote monitoring center or an alarm detection center.
The canine security officer provides surveillance accompanied by his dog.
The fire safety officer is responsible for fire prevention in buildings open to the public and high-rise buildings. He/she carries out regular inspections and checks the fire alarm and prevention systems (extinguishers, smoke detectors, etc.). In the event of a problem, the APS is often the first on the scene. He/she must apply and enforce the rules and instructions in the event of a fire, prevent and secure access to the premises, give first aid and call for help.
The theft prevention officer or store inspector is responsible for preventing theft or controlling people who have committed theft or malicious acts in stores, department stores, and shopping malls. He/she is stationed at the entrance to the store, near the cash desks, or behind control screens.
In parallel with the surveillance mission, the APS is also responsible for all the administrative parts relating to these checks and interventions (observations, incident reports, entry/exit clockings, etc.)
The prevention and security officer generally wears specific work clothes except when he/she is monitoring shoplifting on commercial premises.
The APS can work day and night, sometimes alone or in a team on weekends and holidays. He/she can work in a prevention and security company, a small surveillance company, a private company, or a public body.
To know: before following the training which will allow him to practice his profession, the prevention and security officer must apply for a professional card from the prefect of his region. This card justifies his identity, profession, and company identity.
